An April fool Day : Day 1 of A-Z Challenge

April-Fool

“You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” – Abraham Lincoln

******************

It was a sunny April morning. The clear sunlight was falling on face my face, disturbing my wee hour’s youthful dreams. Persistent to sleep, I kept covering my face with the big pillow. Suddenly with a pat of a hand, I was jerked out of my sleep by my darling mother. Angry with this sudden interruption, I looked into her face with fire in my eyes.

Me: Why? Maa? It’s Sunday.

Mom: I know that, I have no interest in waking you up that early but there is phone for you.

Me (Puzzled): Phone for me.

I looked up at the wall clock. It was 7 am. Muttering to myself (Who the hell was calling me up this early that too on a Sunday morning), I got out of bed.

Me (yelling): Hello who is this?

Caller (husky male voice): It’s me.

Me (annoyingly): Who me…I don’t know any me.

Caller (laughingly): How can you forget my voice dear.

Me(blazingly): Hey, listen if you know me than you should have known this too that I am bad in recognizing voices and whoever you are, one more gimmick, I will get inside the phone and slap you.

Caller (haphazardly): I Love you ❤ ….beep beep … (phone cut)

Me (astonishingly looking at the receiver). Huh…That was bad.

I kept the receiver and wandered into my room. Suddenly the big white office calendar of my dad struck me. It beamed 1st April. I laughed thinking that I was fooled to believe that I got my first proposal.

***********

Years have passed since then, but I still couldn’t figure it out who the caller was and whether it was a prank or proposal. Nevertheless I still consider it as my first proposal 😉 after all its an achievement to get a proposal at thirteen 😛 (specially in India) at least it was like that when I was that age.

This my attempt for the First day of the A-Z Challenge.

Day 1: A (alphabet)

  2. Very cute post. Getting the unknown calls on landlines used to have a different charm. and the blank calls!!! Now no admirers can afford to stay hidden.

    1. True Mann 🙂 After all girls grew up thinking that they would be having some secret admirers 😛 Thanks to romantic flicks and books 😉 True the caller ID and call trace app’s have taken toll of secrecy 😀
